Bandelier National Monument

2009

Hello all.  We’ve taken a trip to Bandelier National Monument, near Los Alamos, NM.  We hiked to the ruins of a pueblo called Yapashi, traversing 600 foot deep Alamo Canyon.

After Yapashi, we set up camp and had a good night.  The next morning we hiked down Capulin Canyon to see an alcove called Painted Cave with many pictographs.

After a very wet, rainy night, we packed our gear and hiked back to the visitor’s center.

All told we hiked 25 miles in three days.  It was a great time.  As a bonus, we saw a few elk when we arrived back at Valle Vista.
