Continental Divide Ride
August 7, 2009

Our route for today is here.

Our cumulative route is here.

Hello all.  We’ve landed in Laredo, Texas, next to the Mall del Norte.  It’s over 100 degrees outside and we’re glad to be inside.

We left Sanderson this morning as light was just showing itself in the east.  The limestone bluffs surrounding Sanderson were faint shadows as we rolled down U.S. Highway 90.

The Rio Grande came into view and our riding paralleled it.  The mountains south of the river began showing their forms as the sun moved closer to the horizon.  We dipped up and down in gullies running into the Rio Bravo del Norte as the town of Langtry, where Judge Roy Bean held court, whizzed by at 55 mph.
The temperatures were cool-ish and riding was pleasant as we approached Del Rio.  As the sun rose, the wind picked up and we crossed the Pecos River a few miles upstream of its confluence with the Rio Grande.

Del Rio came and went and we were in Eagle Pass quickly.

The temperature rose swiftly as the morning wore away and we began looking for Laredo in the distance.

Around noon, we merged with Interstate 35 and within a few miles Laredo came into view and we pulled into the motel parking lot.  Thankfully, our room was ready and the air conditioner was welcome. See y’all down the trail.
