And now children, let me tell you a bedtime story that will warm your hearts and make you sleep well, knowing how mighty and heroic men fought for you and all Texians.

Yes, there will be bloodbaths.  Yes, there will be racially insensitive overtones.  And, yes, as with most North American history, you’ll find implicit agreement among the participants of ends justifying the means.
