June 2 and 3 of 2006

Howdy All! We’re finally on our way. We left home on June 2, 2006, heading for the Trans-America Trail trailhead in Jellico, Tennessee.

Our general route to Jellico was Interstate 30, then Interstate 40,on through Nashville, and northwest to Jellico. By nature, interstate travel goes through nothing, therefore showing you the worst part of the state. It was only after we left I-40 and traveled northeast towards Jellico that we saw much interesting scenery.

Our map showed us a place called Colditz Cove State Natural Area. We stopped to find the area deserted. A two mile loop led to Northrup Falls, a 63 foot waterfall. Along the loop we saw an Eastern Newt. Please look at the pictures below. It’s way more interesting to look at than read about.

Late in the day we arrived in Jellico and began our preparation for tomorrow, our first day on the bikes!

Tomorrow, we hope to spend the night in Sparta, TN. Please feel free to email us. See you down the trail.

Money spent: $397.94 (includes motels and gas for van)
